Minecraft 1.9 Features/Discussion

Yeah it is against the rules, but it is on the level of using caps in chat. You have to be trying really hard to get banned for it. Best bet would be to nerd pole near a port or foreign territory, so it can be removed automatically. You lose blocks; but hey, falling with style.

well the only problem with that is, towns are not that close you would have to go world limit to reach a town. Also to the new people of Loka that join it won't look that pretty o_O

If you really want to allow people to fly even in others territory I guess you could literally just have like an invisible wall where the town border is that simply can't be passed by Elytras.

And as for the rarity, I can't imagine they could be that "rare" in the same sense as any other items. Full enchanted diamond armor is rare but because of the benefits it provides in battle people still wear it and take it around everywhere. This is because one, its rare but the advantages are enough to risk it, and two, it isn't really that rare. Even the rarest stuff in Minecraft can be obtained if you are dedicated for a few days.

When I imagine the use of Elytras in combat its all PvE, when raiding or attempting to fly somewhere quickly I assume they'd be smart enough to replace it with real armor by the time they start fighting. And yes they are useful in PvE. For anyone who has ever fought a miniboss you know their damage is dealt by sending you up into the air.

And given that a lot of people would probably still like to see Elytras become a raiding tool, perhaps if you really wanted to go down this route you could. But in doing so you would have to balance out the disadvantage with an advantage. I talked earlier about above ground vs underground. Well this is where you could bring it into play. I still wouldn't prefer this but for those of you adamant that it should be able to be used for raiding, then at least balance out the major disadvantages it would create with some other advantages.

Good point. Then again, we still have issues with unfinished bases, unsightly excavation, floating leaves, and random melon mansions. Maybe a y limit could be placed near the ports to prevent this.

Agree with you about it not being used for raiding. Owning a town on the surface, I don't want my wall becoming useless based on an update. When 1.8 came out, we had to setup rules to prevent people performing raids via airship. Also, Elytras will be be rarer than other items on Loka since they cannot be crafted or obtained via fishing rod. Since we rely on different continents for resources, the admin team will have a good deal of control over how available they may become.

Do you guys remember those quests the Brewmaster set us on? There was one with the dark forest, and the the other with the shipwreck? We had to solve his clues and then search for something in the area he hinted? What if getting elytras go something like that? Different one-time quests we must complete? I dunno, just an idea.

That would be a good idea! While we are on this Brewmaster subject why did I never get the achievements, like I know he fed me I had low health from a blaze while "Hell on Loka" was implemented, and Get a quest from the Brewmaster (don't know if there is one for that) but I got this quest to find a ship in the southwestern sea or something like that...
