February 27th, Day 288: Kabosu

Fruit Info: Used to improve the flavor of many foods in Japan, the Kabosu is a lovely little citrus fruit. It is closely related to the yuzu and its juice has the same sharpness as lemon juice. The polyphenols in the fruit are also useful for preventing discoloration and preserving fish meat. I suggest looking up this fruit on google to see more images then just the one below.

This sounds like a good town name for a Japanese-styled town.

February 28th, Day 289: Ogonkan

Fruit Info: Translating to “golden citrus” today’s fruit is really on the nose with its name. It also goes by the Ki-mikan meaning “yellow mikan” which isn’t much better. The fruit is known for being quite fragrant. So much so that it’s oils have been studied for that strong fragrance factor. It also has a very sweet flavor balanced out by a bit of acidity.

March 6th, Day 295: Malus sieversii

Fruit Info: Today we have a wild apple species. This bad bot can be found in the mountains of Central Asia found in Kazakhstan. Most interesting is that this species is believed to be the ancestor to almost all modern apples (Malus domestica). This was speculated from morphological evidence and later supported by DNA evidence.
