JournalTrace is an
open-source program. It isn't malware. Note that all the detections in your screenshot are generics. They are false-positives, presumably caused by the fact that reading NTFS journal entries is a low-level function that any normal program would have no business doing. Many other digital forensics tools get similarly falsely flagged as malicious by antiviruses due to their unique nature. Echo's JournalTrace equivalent, Journal Tool, is another example of this.
For what it's worth, I reanalyzed JournalTrace on
VirusTotal (where your screenshot is from) and the detections dropped from 14/70 to 5/70 so it would appear that security vendors are at least improving their detections in this regard.
