With 1.6 coming up many of us are questioning whether or not Loka should be wiped clean, giving us a chance to start fresh again. Towns would be preserved in this process, but the rest of the map would be reset. A reset like this would give reasonable access to horses, and make things like mining and exploring easier. The downside is that we would lose a lot, and that this would be a lot of work for Cryptite. It has also been mentioned that new biomes might come in a later update.
So post your opinions on why we should or shouldn't have a map reset. Other things related to this subject, such as a world border for the new world, and large biomes should also be discussed.
Edit: Added some poll options

I suppose since towns are dying left and right and the majority of our land within a radius of 5k from spawn is a graveyard... a clean slate would be nice.

Omg this is Soo hard....we will lose as much as we gain. Here are my pros and cons

Pro:

Fresh start
New lands to explore
Better access to resources
Horse for all
Nether quartz for all
Better for advertising the server
Less need for long distance traveling for em ore, quartz, etc

Cons:

Lost history, lost cities, lost lore, lost work
It's a huge job for Crypt, so we really need to make sure we are doing this at the best possible time
Decreased value in quartz and emerld ore
Invested time it will take
The wait time for our cities to be "placed"
The lack of resources while waiting for our cities.

Hmm. Still debating.

We don't really need a New new spawn. Since the one we have is only a few months old.
But I have questions before I can make such an important decision.

Can our Town be saved?
How many towns can I asked to be saved?
How long would it take to have our towns placed?
What would that process be?
what are the other options, besides re-setting the map?

Yes.

Not sure what this means, but I've assumed that all active generators will be saved an nothing else will be.

Depending on how it's done they can be placed on the new map before we even have access to it.
What would that process be?
Crypt WEing out of the current world and into the new one

The most obvious other option is to do nothing and continue in a griefed area with no horses. For those that want horses we could either have a stable/spawner/shop that provides them at spawn or change existing chunks to spawn them. Zor suggested keeping the current map but moving spawn 100k,100kish and allowing towns to either be moved or to start fresh. The downside to this I'd really like a complete reset, starting fresh or only with items in the enderchest but I doubt anyone else would like that.

That's not preferable. For the move to Loka it was copied directly from Artifact to wherever we wanted it on the new map. Obviously we'd need access to it then so that could take up to a month or two.

The other option is to generate the map however it's generated and allow people to scout it out and pick a location that they like. Then whenever the transfer happens everything will be prepared.

Any town that managed to survive travel to a new world would have to overcome extreme tribulations in order to do so.

Like I said I'd be fine with a fresh start if everyone else is. Things like that both attract and reatain new members. But if other people will be moving I don't plan on starting out with a disadvantage.

Well it wasn't that difficult to move towns to Loka. Poor Spunkie decided he'd do it all on his own and had to fight several hundred Endermen. Nouv and I payed for the rest of the server.

No, that's not the point of it. Any town that remains active should be entitled to transfer, as they were last time. (yeah I remember the beacons, but they were a tiny cost)

Its not an exercise in weeding out the poor, rather in clearing the map up and providing a new land for all to explore.

On the flip side however, a fresh start might be something to consider, and that's coming from someone who is thoroughly invested in their town in the way of hours spent building.

Well, we're all invested in our huge towns and cities. But I'm more in favor of a complete map reset with nothing coming over, than letting the richest of us be able to transfer our towns. I'm in agreement that we're not separating the poor from the rich.

But I'm also not talking about beacons like last time. I'd do something totally different, and not something based solely on cost.

As some of you are aware I have heavily invested in three new cities. I've spent hours upon hours working there... but I'm not totally against a complete wipe. I'd like to know sooner rather than later though so I can stop working.

Of course Hyrule would go with us anyways, amiright?

It would be nice to have access to the current world like we do to the old world, but if any towns are brought as residences they all need to be brought.

I would love a map reset without towns, provided we can still visit. Let it be soon, I leave school in a month! :D
