Friendly Reminders for 1.8... [see new posts]

A feature of 1.8, or perhaps lack of a feature, that I haven't seen mentioned yet is the removal of bedrock fog. There will be absolutely no fog in 1.8 due to its impact on performance.

Also apparently 1.8 comes out next Tuesday. This won't of course mean bukkit will be out then, but there's that. Theoretically...

Some things to keep in mind for 1.8:

1) Villager trading is going to change quite drastically. Some items will no longer be available to trade such as all the pieces of diamond armor. If there are certain trades you value right now, keep those villagers safe as they will keep their trades after the update.

2) I do not know whether this has been fixed or not, but in the snapshots there was a bug that ruined the generation of ocean monuments if you logged in or next to the chunk in which they were supposed to generate. If you live near an ocean and would like a chance to obtain an ocean monument I suggest logging out at spawn before the server updates. Crypt, please give us 24-48 hours warning so we may do that.

3) I am still investigating all the new blocks and will let you know if there is anything else we need to do to prepare. I will also update the first post before the release on Tuesday.

4) A little while after 1.8 is release we will be able to change our screen names. It is still unknown exactly how this will work, but we will all get at least 1 free name change and we will be able to keep track of everyone who changes their name. If you're interested in changing your name I'd start thinking about it now because there's sure to be a lot of competition and you don't want to lose your first choice.

Just asking, if you wanted to change your name, you have to change it on minecraft.net? Correct? Or is there some other way to change it..

I am going to guess that you will be required to link your Minecraft account to your Mojang account if you haven't already by using your email. Then you will go to their main website and make the change there so it applies to all of their games.

Which reminds me. Loka is in no way whatsoever prepared for that upcoming change. I'm lazy and should've done it literally at any point in time during which 1.7 has been out but oh well. It'll be done by the time we update to 1.8 for sure.

Arms will have 3 pixel wide arms instead of 4. so everyone will have thinner arms.

IIRC you can toggle this if you want, it's not that way by default. This is meant to look better with female skins.

I'm not sure if I like the whole 3 pixle arm thing. I thought it was a non-optional feature and you had no choice but to have your avatars arms be skinny. I guess I'll have to play around with 1.8 when it comes out, see how it looks on my actual character instead of on Steve and his derby cousin.

The white dots are the collar of his shirt, and the white rings are bracelets. If you look close at the picture you'll see that the bracelets are raise up off the skin like hats on the head. All body parts now have "hats" and can make a skin more 3D. You can also make the arms and legs asymetrical (if you have the app, Skin Design Studio), it's really cool.

After some testing I have concluded that granite, diorite, and andesite do not spawn in old chunks. To obtain them we will need an expansion of the map. On the bright side, they are all very common and there are no longer those ugly version borders.
