It ends when I lose my mind or Crypt loses his head.

January 17th, Day 247: American Olive

Fruit Info: The Devil wood is a dandy alternative name for today’s fruit. The Cartrema americana is native to much of the southeast United States, except south Florida for reasons. There plant is grown mostly for ornamental reasons and for its lovely smell.

Fruit Tier: A for America!

January 19th, Day 249: Garland Crab

Fruit Info: Malus coronoria, otherwise known as the sweet crabapple, is today’s fruit. It grows primarily in the Great Lakes region and Ohio valley in the United States, but has some notable populations elsewhere. It is used in both preserves and ciders because why not.

January 20th, Day 250: Tahiti Lime

Fruit Info: Today we have the Tahiti lime, Citrus x latifolia. I could explain why I chose this one today, but honestly I encourage you to investigate it yourself. I chose this fruit on day 250. The only other hint you get is 1/4th. Try and find out why and don’t expect it to be obvious at all!

January 21st, Day 251: Rangpur

Fruit Info: Here we have the Rangpur, a hybrid citrus fruit made from crossing the citron with the mandarin orange. It is highly acidic so it can be used as a substitute for lime in those respects. However that’s where the similarities between it and limes pretty much end. They’re really not similar despite the rangpur being called the rangpur lime or mandarin lime in some places.

It is a fancy orange. :orange:
How dare you say that...

January 22nd, Day 252: Ichang Papeda

Fruit Info: One of the types of Papeda out there, the Ichang Papeda (Citrus cavaleriei) is a particularly slow growing type. The small, mandarin like fruit has a fragrant yet rugged rind. It’s flowers are also fragrant, possessing a strong lemon smell. The fruit contains a small amount of butter juice, that some of the fruits forgo entirely in favor of more seed space.

January 23rd, Day 253: Lumia

Fruit Info: Likely originating from around the Mediterranean, the lumia makes its claim as fruit of the day today. The lumia is a cotton hybrid of somewhat uncertain origin. The fruit is known for its distinctive shape, which has earned it the name pear lemon. Other alternate names include French lime, sweet lemon, and it’s on the nose scientific name Citrus lumia.

Fruit Tier: A points for originality. I wouldn’t have thought about combining Pear and Lemon before.

What if it's from Super Mario Galaxy and it was originally a star?

Honestly one of the most odd fruits I've seen on this thread so far. Quite weird that it's origins are unknown.

I mean there is a precedent for them turning themselves into consumables, so I’m not gonna rule it out.

It’s actually not as uncommon as you may think, particularly among citrus. The citrus genus has been cultivated and domesticated by humans for thousands of years making their origins highly difficult to discern. The fruit you consume is, almost assuredly, so unlike the actual original ancestors of these fruit that you would never recognize it. So where in this ancient timeline some of them came to be we really just don’t know, as people didn’t study them like they do today.

January 24th, Day 254: Kaffir Lime

Fruit info: Native to Southeast Asia, the Citrus hystrix is a rather unique case of a toxic citrus. While the whole fruit isn’t toxic, the peel and pulp contain very significant amounts of furanocoumarins. These chemicals can cause very dangerous levels of skin inflammation. The rest of the fruit has use culinarily, and sanitarily.

January 25th, Day 255: Australian Finger Lime

Fruit Info: The Australian Finger Lime is a rather uniquely named fruit I’ll give it that. Despite its uniqueness in the naming though, people haven’t given it much attention until recently. It wasn’t until the 90s that the fruit began growing in popularity. In the 2000s the fruit finally gained significant place in export and restaurants. Certainly one of the most interesting characteristics of Citrus australasica is that it’s a lime that comes in green, pink, red, and more.

January 26th, Day 256: Australian Round Lime

Fruit Info: Apparently there is a whole subset of citrus that are the Australian Limes. So let’s talk briefly about another wonder from down under. It secretes oils that, while not super duper useful do smell good. It has an acidic juice that is quite tasty in cooking. That’s about it.

January 27th, Day 257: Australian Desert Lime

Fruit Info: Here we have the Australian desert lime which, as the name suggests, is found in the deserts of Australia. Such wow. The limes are relatively small with an intense “piquant” flavor. Citrus glauca is also harvested largely from wild bushes rather than cultivated so that’s neat.

January 28th, Day 258: Hatkhora

Fruit Info: The hatkhora, or Cutrus macroptera, is a nifty little citrus native to Bangladesh and some of the surrounding regions. It is exported for a high price as a useful ingredient in perfume. That’s about it yeah.
