July 9th, Day 419: Gemsbok Cucumber

Fruit Info: Acanthosicyos naudinianus is a spiny little African melon species. The fruit has an interesting relationship with poison though. While eating this fruit before it is ripe can cause a burning sensation in the mouth the fruit by itself is not poisonous. But if you mix the blood of the larva of the Diamphidia beetle it creates a poison used on arrow tips. Additionally the roots of the plant are also poisonous.

Fruit Tier: S honestly the poison read was super interesting it deserves this s.

Not close enough tbh.

July 11th, Day 421: Bitter Melon

Fruit Info: I feel a melon kick coming on because today we have Momordica charantia. This fruit has a variety of uses all around the world. In Asia and Africa it has been used medicinally to treat a variety of problems, and particularly a lot of stomach ailments. There may be benefits to the fruit in modern pharmacology but more research is required. The fruit has a variety of culinary uses too. It is used commonly in northern, southern, and central Indian cuisines. It is also cooked in China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Trinidad and Tobago, and so many more. Honestly there’s a lot to say about this fruit so definitely look it up.

July 13th, Day 423: Basalm Pear

Fruit Info: Invasive to Asia, Central America, North America, and Australia, is today’s fruit the Momordica balsamina. Native to Africa it is apparently known to be consumed by the Tsonga people in the northern parts of South Africa. This plant was possibly introduced to Europe for medicinal uses but Wikipedia has no source on that one.

July 15th, Day 425: Momordica cymbalaria

Fruit Info: Today’s fruit is a relative of the bitter melon, and is native to various Indian states. About all the rest you can say about it is summarized well by this Wikipedia excerpt: “Pharmacological studies have examined possible action of extracts of the plant in animal models of disease. The water extract was reported to have hypoglycemic activity in diabetic rabbits but not in normal rabbits. The ethanol extract was reported to protect rats from isoproterenol-induced myocardial injury.”

July 16th, Day 426: Voting Fruit!

Fruit Info:
Today we've got the voting fruit! Up until earlier today I had no idea this fruit could vote until I saw him at the community representative polling center, however as it turns out he really did cast his vote! He wanted for me to remind you that for the next week the LCR voting will be live and that you must vote for whoever you think should be community representative... Although he was voting for his fruity friend @FroggyFruitDupe, I implore all of you to vote for whoever you see fit...

July 17th, Day 427: Momordica foetida

Fruit Info: Imagine being named after how much you stink, because that’s what our fruit of the day today has had to endure. Our fruit’s species name, foetida, translates roughly to “bad smelling”, so next time you don’t like your name just be glad you’re not one of these.
