Fruit Info: For our fruit of the day today we have the sandpaper fig, scientifically known as Focus coronara. This fruit is a native to many different regions of Australia. It is described by Wikipedia as being “edible” and “palatable”, which I’ll leave you to decide you feel about that particular way of phrasing things.

October 17th, Day 881: Shiny Sandpaper Fig

Fruit Info: Today’s fruit is the shiny sandpaper fig. While I know that there are real scientific reasons for the sandpaper fig being different than the shiny sandpaper fig, I reject those notions in favor of my own theory. I believe that this is an alternate color scheme of the sandpaper fig that occurs only once in every 8192 sandpaper figs.

October 19th, Day 883: Strangler Fig

Fruit Info: Now I’m sure you’re wondering “why is Ficus tinctoria being called the strangler fig”? And that is a perfectly good question. One in which I am unhappy to report that I don’t know the answer to. But at least I did find out that it is consumed regularly in some parts of Polynesia and Micronesia, and that the fruit can be used to make a red dye for dying traditional fabrics in Oceania and Indonesia.
